How to Choose a Nail Lamp?

What is a Nail Lamp?

A nail lamp, also known as a nail curing lamp, is specifically designed for drying gel during the nail process and is commonly used in nail salons. During the nail procedure, some nails may be coated with a layer of gel, similar to nail polish but more durable. Gel nails can last for over a month, and their price is higher than regular nail polish. They are typically applied in professional nail salons.
How to Choose a Nail Lamp?
Types of Nail Lamps:
There are two main types of nail lamps used for curing gel nails – UV lamps and LED lamps. UV lamps emit ultraviolet light with a peak wavelength of around 370nm. While this wavelength falls within the visible light spectrum and is not harmful to the eyes, prolonged direct exposure is not recommended. UV lamps effectively provide drying and sterilization. A standard nail lamp usually has four bulbs, each with a power rating of 9 watts. It is advisable to replace the bulbs every six months for optimal performance.
How to Purchase a Nail Lamp:
Curing lamps designed for gel nails can be used on both hands and feet. There are various types of nail lamps available in the market. Some integrate a fan with the nail lamp to expedite the drying process. Most nail lamps use electronic ballasts, providing portability and low-voltage startup. However, they may have a shorter lifespan and pose safety concerns. Alternatively, lamps with inductive ballasts can extend the lifespan of the bulbs.
When purchasing a nail lamp, consider the integration of features such as a fan, the type of ballast used, and the overall safety and portability of the device. Following the gel manufacturer’s guidelines and UV lamp instructions is crucial for proper usage. Avoid shortening or exceeding the recommended usage time to maintain the best results.
